FAQ

Q. Who joins Sakuramai?
A. Sakuramai is a diverse and welcoming community united by a love for Yosakoi. Many of our members have Japanese heritage and join us temporarily while in Canada, while others stay with us long-term. We also have members from all backgrounds who are excited to embrace and contribute to Yosakoi's vibrant tradition. We value teamwork and encourage each other to develop our unique talents.

Q. Do I need dance experience?
A. Not at all! Yosakoi is open to everyone, regardless of age or experience level. Many of our dancers started with no prior dance background. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the journey.

Q. Does everyone perform?
A. Yes, if you’d like to! However, you can also join us for practice without committing to perform.

Q. Where do you perform?
A. We perform throughout the year at events across Toronto. Some of our highlights include Japan Festival Canada, Japan Day at Raptors 905, Taste of Danforth, and festivals at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. We’ve even traveled to Tokyo to participate in the Harajuku Super Yosakoi Festival.

Q. Do I need to come every week?
A. No pressure to attend every week, but you’ll need to be at specific rehearsals if you’re preparing for a performance.

Q. Do I need to speak Japanese?
A. Nope! But if you're interested, it's a great opportunity to practice.
